Joining the Consortium will enable Axion to respond more effectively to requests, as well as opening up future opportunities across Europe in the waste and recycling sector.
As the amount of valuable materials such as plastics and metals become less available on the market, there is a growing interest in urban mining where landfill sites can find innovative methods of resource recovery.
More than 40 organisations from across 12 EU member states belong to EURELCO, which works to share information on Enhanced Landfill Mining projects and programmes in these countries.
The Consortium examines ways to mine resources from former landfill sites
Enhanced Landfill Mining has been defined as the safe exploration, conditioning, excavation and integrated treatment of landfilled waste streams as both materials and energy, using innovative transformation technologies and respecting the most stringent social and ecological criteria.’
The Consortium brings together industry and academia professionals, private companies and government organisations in order to examine the most efficient ways to mine the materials used in generations past.
As raw materials increase in price, technology improves and land values continue to rise, Axion members predict that mining will become more economically attractive to source resources and upgrade land for re-development.
Axion Consulting provides help and advice on the development of innovative mechanical and chemical separation techniques for plastics, metals and critical raw materials.
The Axion Group develops resource recovery and processing solutions for recycling waste materials, working with a range of clients, government agencies and local authorities to find new ways of reusing and collecting materials recovered from landfill.
