An impressive 500 tonnes of waste vinyl flooring was recycled via Recofloor in 2014
The scheme has inspired flooring contractors and distributors to send their waste vinyl flooring to be recycled into new flooring and other products.
Many companies, such as Mayfield Floors and Branagan Flooring Services, have got involved with the scheme to reduce their disposal costs and waste.
By recycling, companies can also demonstrate their green credentials to generate new business.
Recofloor has been designed as a simple scheme.
It encourages consumers to send their waste vinyl products back to companies in clear polybags, which enable receivers to identify any contamination.
The waste vinyl flooring is then recycled and re-used in other projects.
There are currently over 70 drop-off sites at distributor’s premises which offer bulk collection facilities. Scheduled collections from larger construction sites are also available.
This provides consumers with an alternative place to discard their waste vinyl flooring, meaning much of it has been diverted from landfill.
Overall, 2,250 tonnes of waste vinyl flooring have been diverted. With more companies becoming aware of Recofloor, this figure is set to rise further in 2015.
