Decothane Ultra provides non-disruptive liquid roof membrane

  • 6 May 2015

It was determined the roof required a waterproof coating after a series of leaks and water ingress problems.

Decothane Ultra was chosen as a non-disruptive solution by Midlands Roofing Services, as the City Council requested that work be carried out while the building was in use.

Decothane Ultra was used to minimise disruption in the offices below.

Over 3,000sq metres of Decothane Ultra is required to complete the project – which began in 2014.

Low odour solution

As the waterproof coating needed to be applied around the air handling units for the building, a low odour solution was necessary to minimise disruption.

During development, Sika Liquid Plastics worked closely with Odournet. Odournet determined that Decothane Ultra had a much lower odour when benchmarked against other single pack polyurethanes.

It achieved an 80% reduction in odour strength within five minutes of application and greater than a 95% reduction after just one hour against a similar product.

Jason Crich from Midland Roofing Services said: “With its low odour levels and ease of application, Decothane Ultra will no doubt be the first choice for a growing number of refurbishment projects in sensitive areas and for highly populated buildings.”

Cold applied

Decothane products are cold applied, therefore eliminating the risk of fire during installation and cure to form a completely seamless waterproof membrane.

Split by various plant and access areas, sections of roofing presented their own unique challenges when applying the liquid roof membrane, with some low plant presenting a clearance of only 10mm.

“Even for the most difficult parts of the refurbishment, Decothane Ultra allowed us to negotiate tricky plant areas with ease and achieve a skilful and flawless application,” commented Jason.

Decothane Ultra is available in the UK from Sika Liquid Plastics.
