The new building has been designed to house the Insubria’s Science and Technology Department’s research laboratories, which are used by staff and students
The new chemical-environmental laboratories have been built for the University of Insubria’s Department of Science and High Technology.
A 3,000 square metre building has been constructed to accommodate the 25-30 scientific research laboratories.
The cube-shaped structure has been fitted with a ventilated facade system, created by Airaudo Costruzioni.
The system has been designed with a 250mm thick masonry support layer and an insulating layer.
A layer of DuPont Tyvek UV facade has been installed in the middle of the system.
There is then a 170mm-200mm ventilation gap and an aluminium load bearing structure.
The exterior cladding comes in the form of Cortene A steel sheets, which have been specified to give the building a smooth finish.

DuPont Tyvek UV facade is a UV-protected breather membrane that has been developed for ventilated facade applications.
The membrane can protect buildings against harsh weather conditions and enhance their thermal performances.
It also protects the insulation materials that have been fitted to the the wall structure behind the exterior cladding to prevent moisture damage.
To ensure that it is resistant to UV radiation, the membrane is black in colour and has a structure that is composed of polyethylene microfibers.
DuPont Tyvek UV facade achieved the CE Mark when it proved it could withstand 5,000 hours of permanent exposure to UV radiation without artificial ageing.
The CE Mark demonstrates that the membrane complies with the European Union’s construction products decree.
