Recently built in Bonn, the Kameha Grand hotel comprises over 250 luxury rooms.
With its iconic transparent design, the hotel has won the MIPM award for Hotels and Tourism.
The view from the entrance of the establishment looks through its lobby and atrium, right to the riverbank.
The guest rooms are arranged on three sides of the atrium with the fourth being glazed to overlook the river.
The hotels unique elliptical design required protection against thermal bridging.
The outer concrete arches, which are situated on the building cantilevers roof and facade, made it impossible for a standard thermal break solution to be installed.
To meet the requirements, three of Schöcks product variants were combined and specified for installation.
Schöcks design team devised a solution to reduce the effect of thermal bridging problems along the two outer arcs: the projecting element of the framework was divided into a number of sections.
The most suitable of Schöcks Isokorbs were then specified for each sections required forces.
Type Q was used at the ground floor, whilst type K was selected for the top floor.
Type D was installed in between the two at a 90 degree angle. It was cut and fitted over the curved edge of the roofs emergency exits to provide F90 fire protection.
Schöcks Isokorb products have been designed for concrete-to-concrete connections.
They are able to reduce the loss of thermal energy in connective areas by ensuring that the thermal envelopes between cantilever structures and internal slabs are consistent.
