GGF urges MPs to cut VAT rate on home improvements

GGF’s Members’ Day

The GGF Members’ Day was held at Glaziers Hall in London and was the venue for a conference programme of 16 presentations, including the forthcoming GGF Energy Ratings Calculator, Consumers Issues and Health and Safety.

Opened by the Right Honourable Simon Hughes MP, who voiced support for the GGF’s campaign to reduce the VAT from a rate of 20% to 5% on home improvement work and energy efficient windows, topics covered in the Industry Issues section included industry training, triple glazing and CE marking.

Delegates heard presentations from guest speakers Richard John of National Energy Foundation and from GK Strategy’s Robin Grainger and Ellen Daniels, who both highlighted the GGF’s work across its selection of campaigns.

Glasstec Dusseldorf

The GGF will be exhibiting at Glasstec Dusseldorf this year as part of its partnership with Wintech Engineering Ltd and is inviting its Members to visit its exhibition space in Hall 11 on Stand C59.

An event aimed at glass manufacturers and processors, almost 1,300 exhibitors from around the world presented their latest products to a total of 45,000 professionals who visited Glasstec 2010.

Member can discuss any technical issues and direct their product testing questions to experts from the Federation’s technical team.

Glasstec 2014 takes place from 21st to 24th October at Messe Düsseldorf.

GGF campaigns to hundreds of MPs

The GGF has written to every Member of Parliament who represents a GGF Member in their constituency to spread the word about the campaigns that is it currently working on ahead of the political parties’ manifestos for next year’s General Election.

The GGF highlights the five main campaigns that it is currently working on in the letters, which include:

• Reducing the rate of VAT on energy efficient products and on home improvement, repair and maintenance work and windows.
• Working alongside the Department of Energy and Climate Change to improve energy efficiency schemes such as Green Deal and Energy Company Obligation.
• Working with the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills to ensure that the Consumer Bill of Rights works for consumers and businesses.
• Promoting an integrated approach to fire safety, where products such as fire resistant glazing systems are tested to the correct specification and installed correctly.
• Addressing the impact of the change of ownership of private sewers to businesses and consumers wanting to build conservatories or extensions on their properties.
