Secondary glazing specified for Listed building renovation

Atlas House is located near St. Paul’s Cathedral in London; part of it dates back to the 19th century, making it a protected Grade II Listed building.

It was recently targeted for refurbishment for office use, but its traditional sash windows were not allowed to be changed.

This created a problem for TateHindle, who were in charge of the project, as the old single glazed windows allowed noise pollution to enter the building and failed to keep it warm.

As a solution, secondary glazing from Selectaglaze was specified to improve the acoustics of the building and make it more thermally efficient.

A hinged casement set with a 150mm cavity was installed.

The system’s twin compression seals possess the ability to minimise acoustic loss whilst its hinges and flush locks were designed so the aesthetics of the building were not compromised.

In total, Selectaglaze successfully treated 165 of Atlas House’s windows, improving the quality of the building without affecting its traditional appearance.
