CE marking services for Italian structural timber trade association

  • 10 Sep 2014

Delivered through FederLegnoArredo’s commercial arm, Conlegno, each piece of timber will undergo visual or machine grading and be assigned to an appropriate strength grade or class.

To attain a CE mark, the timber must comply with the European EN 14081-1: Timber Structures – strength graded structural timber with rectangular cross section general requirements, and all suppliers must have a factory production control system in place.

A Notified Body must carry out an initial inspection of the FPC system and its continuing surveillance for System 2 plus strength-graded structural timber for building and bridges.

BM TRADA, as a UKAS accredited Notified Body, will be administering the work and issuing certificates to FederLegnoArredo members taking part in the scheme after demonstrating compliance.

FederLegnoArredo and BM TRADA both represent their countries on the technical committee that develops and revises EN 14081 to suit market needs and to meet the requirements of the Construction Products Regulation.

BM TRADA’s Technical Manager, Dr Hugh Mansfield Williams hopes that the new agreement will lead to greater co-operation between European timber associations before schemes are extended to other products, including chestnut, glue laminated and cross laminated timber.

FederLegnoArredo is a private non-profit organisation aimed at protecting forest resources and biodiversity by promoting the use of wood from raw material to packaging.
