Cross-laminated timber training course dates announced

The course will feature new content for 2015; including an introduction to product standards and harmonisation, while, for the engineers, there will also be guidance on engineering design.

Delivered by members of the BM TRADA frameCHECK team – who regularly provide best practice advice – the course explores how cross-lamination can be used, its benefits and pitfalls.

Cross-laminated timber brings with it many advantages, including a visually appealing structure, built-in fire resistance and many environmental benefits.

Innovative Timber Construction

The new course is written to complement BM TRADA’s ‘Innovative Timber Construction’ book.

The TRADA publication expands on information about alternative forms of timber construction mentioned in Timber Frame Construction 5th Edition – including cross-laminated timber.

The course is designed to provide a broad overview of the subject and the specifics of building with cross laminated timber. Course content includes:

• Manufacture
• Pre-processing off site
• Design principles and detailing
• Hybrid forms
• Shrinkage
• Fire
• Disproportionate collapse
