Wireless interconnection for optical smoke alarms in Sheffield homes

  • 20 May 2015

When the Council decided to implement an upgrade from battery to mains powered alarms, many of its tenants protested, as fitting a hardwired interconnection can cause unwanted disturbances.

To avoid moving furniture, lifting floor boards and troubling its residents, the Council turned its attention to Aico’s RadioLINK.

By using Radio Frequency (RF) signals, RadioLINK allows for the interconnection of Aico smoke and heat alarms.

This eliminates the necessity for interconnecting cabling, saving both time and disruption.

Over 2,000 maisonettes across Sheffield will benefit from the installation of Aico Ei166RC optical smoke alarms, which are being used to replace their current battery powered alarms.

With this installation, the Council’s fire system has been upgraded to a BS 5839-6 Grade D; it will make good use of Aico’s RadioLINK technology.

With re-chargable Lithium cells, the alarms can provide over 6 months of back-up in the event of an unfortunate mains failure.

Available with a range of accessories, including Carbon Monoxide alarms and call points, the innovative alarms can be successfully integrated into third party systems, such as warden call systems.
