PROTEC2 padlocks & cylinders fitted at water facilities

The locks and cylinders fall in line with government legislation

Comprising of Essex & Suffolk Water and Northumbrian Water, the Group provides wastewater and sewerage services to the community, as well as fresh tap water to over 2.5 million people.

Lincoln Security and Chelmsford Locksmiths installed over 5,000 units to reservoir hatches, perimeter gates and more over the period of two years, working alongside Northumbrian Water to conduct a survey of the sites in order to access the level of security and number of units needed before work began.

Abloy’s PROTEC2 cylinder system was chosen as it is designed to provide a high level of security in sensitive areas, offering a patented disc controller structure that requires a moving element in the key.

Security protection until 2031

PROTEC2 prevents the authorisation of duplicate keys

PROTEC2 provides key and key blank patent protection until the year 2031 to prevent the authorisation of duplicate keys, available with the entire range of padlocks and cylinders.

A variety of products can be keyed into the same master key system in Abloy PROTEC2, allowing for simple operation with just a single key to make key management easier.

Some 1.97 billion different key combinations are available with the system to heighten general security and significantly reduce the risk of theft and vandalism at the Northumbrian Water Group’s 3,000 rural assets.

Offering a versatile and weather resistant system, PROTEC2 cuts down on the number of keys carried by individual employees or contractors and provides a convenient solution in places such as water facilities.
