BS 8539 compliant anchors offer safe construction fixing

  • 2 Oct 2015

In accordance with BS 8539, DEWALT is endorsing best fixing practice with its range of approved anchors and compliant fixings, which are all reinforced by technical and design support.

The British Standard, BS 8539, is an important development in the use of construction fixings. It offers recommendations for the safe specification and installation of anchors for use in both masonry and concrete, in order to reduce the injuries and economic consequences which have come to be closely associated with construction fixing failures.

It is also closely linked to the relevant European regulations, with respect to selecting products with the correct European Technical Assessments (ETA).

Safety support from DEWALT

As a member of the Construction Fixings Association (CFA), DEWALT has taken on a proactive role in the campaign to raise awareness of BS 8539’s safety message.

DEWALT’s anchors, fixings and fastening systems have been ETA-approved; they also carry the CE mark and ICC certification.

To assist correct specification and installation, in line with BS 8539 guidelines, the company’s fixing solutions are backed by technical documentation and an online anchor design facility

The company also offers on-site training and consultations, Toolbox Talks and CPD seminars to offer further support and information on BS 8539. It is currently working with the CFA to deliver courses in BS 8539 compliance for installers and site testers.

Compliant anchors and fixings

DEWALT’s one-piece Blue-Tip screw-bolt offers compliance with the recommendations of BS 8539, alongside its PTB-PRO family of zinc plated heavy duty steel through-bolts; these mechanical anchors have been approved to ETA option 1 (for cracked concrete)

BS 8539 compliant fixings in the range also include adhesive anchors like DEWALT’s AC100-PRO vinylester anchoring system, which has been designed to deliver consistent performance in demanding circumstances.

The system can be used for various applications, such as bonding steel elements to cracked and uncracked concrete or masonry, and for post-installing reinforcement bars.
