World’s best architects for Battersea plus construction growth beats Olympics

  • 30 Oct 2013

I live near Battersea power station, made famous by Pink Floyd’s inflatable pigs flying through its massive chimneys back in the seventies. The long overdue redevelopment of this iconic site will be at the heart of the regeneration of south London, not least because two of the world’s best architects, Frank Geary & Norman Foster, are to have a hand in the design. Amazing. Maybe pigs do fly.

The latest ONS statistics show that a 2.5% growth in construction in Q3 seems to have fired-up GDP which has grown too, despite the fact that last year’s comparative Q3 included the lift from the London Olympics.

Take a look at our selection from industry news sent in to Buildingtalk in the past 7 days. Highlights include details of the first trade kitchen price comparison site; the latest RIBA approved CPD from Abloy; a new roofing guide from Jewson; and much more, including some interesting project stories. Our VIDEO OF THE WEEK shows the impact of solar thermal hot water on green statistics. Check out all the story summaries below and follow the links for useful downloads.

And don’t miss-out on the chance to win a new van by entering the BAL prize draw.

Finally, I will be at the Batimat exhibition in Paris next week, including attending a digital presentation of the design concepts behind 50 innovative architectural buildings that have transformed the city. Follow the link below for more on this.
