The building, which is being renovated into a retail space with private apartments, is situated in an area of special character; the designer had very specific ideas for its exterior.
Glazed tiles were an important feature in the original Town Planning approval, as the designer wanted to fade the colour of the tiles vertically through the building to create a striking aesthetic.
alsecco accepted the challege of re-creating the designer’s vision of a tiled graded tonal effect.
alsecco’s versatile external wall insulation system was chosen for installation as its cermaic tiles can be used externally.
The company provided samples of its ceramic glazed tiles for the client and Trinder Architectural picked a selection of green colours and tones for the development.
CAD was used to develop a transitional colour graduation that would suggest a tonal change vertically through the building, adherring to the designer’s vision.
Once the system was specified, façade specialist, Wall Solutions, was contracted to fit it. Around 250 square metres of the ceramic tiles were bedded directly to the reinforcing layer of alsecco’s external wall insulation system.
A white render finish was also used on the upper floors of the apartments, stretching down the side street.
alsecco worked closely with the developer, Trinder Architectural and Wall Solutions throughout the project, with its design team on hand to provide assitance when necessary.
