We begin with the Buildingtalk review of the Chancellor’s Autumn Statement. This includes links to full reports from Glenigan, FMB and the GGF plus useful comments from right across the industry. Turner & Townsend quipped that after several years of flirting’ the Chancellor has at last fallen in love with fracking and is showering shale drillers with tax breaks. But I’m sure Jamie Oliver would have approved of the extra £150m going into school kitchens.
We also have a report from Dr Paul Toyne, Director of Sustainability at Balfour Beatty on the Government’s Infrastructure Carbon Review of planned reduction by 24m tonnes.
Some excellent case studies this week check-out the links for the full stories and brochure downloads. New products include a new eco-alternative to MDF, MFC, and laminate boards; and a new windows and doors app for contractors and installers.
Other industry news: Berkeley are now building more houses than before the recession; JCB are creating 2,500 jobs with a £150m expansion; and timber frame is set to boost the house building market next year.
And finally, it’s good to see everyone is working hard to make Christmas a good one. Kidde are making make sure Santa is safe when he visits your home; and in response to poor customer service 2,000 years ago, Travelodge are offering any Mary and Joseph a free hotel room this Christmas.
