Sustainable apartment redevelopment utilises single ply membrane

  • 14 Oct 2015

A £22 million redevelopment in Blackpool is utilising Protan’s single ply membrane to create sustainable, low rise apartments and houses.

Queens Park is undergoing an extensive transformation, demolishing old tower blocks and replacing them with new residential living quarters.

The new three storey blocks created the first phase of the development feature an innovative design approach, as 40 of the 92 apartments are built as ‘flexible’ homes in which the bottom two levels can be merged to create a two-storey, three bedroom house.

Both of the apartment blocks, their associated balconies and car ports have been manufactured using 2,000 metres of Protan single ply membrane.

Protan was specified for its speedy installation times and performance in one of the UK’s most exposed coastal regions.

Ian Kynaston, Managing Director of Roofing Contractor Kynaston Contract Services explained: “Lovell specified single ply as the simplest way to waterproof yet deliver high quality sustainable homes. It was our decision to use Protan.”

Protan membrane achieves durability for up to 30 years, with air leakage controlled and minimised in line with the latest Building Regulations.

The company’s range of single ply roofing solutions are covered on Protan’s dedicated website.
