Brett Landscaping’s Lugano flag paving has formed an integral part of the exterior landscaping at a new hotel as part of the Ageas Bowl Cricket Stadium in Southampton.
Constructed by Southampton Developments for Ageas Bowl owner and Hampshire Country Cricket Club chairman Rob Bransgrove, the development is a major investment on the South Coast.
The ground aims to become an Ashes Test Match ground by 2019, and it is therefore crucial that the site, and its surrounding area, achieves the right aesthetic appearance.
The hotel, the entrance of which need to match the luxuriousness of the Hilton brand, also needed to complement the wider area encompassed by the Bowl.
The building is built into the curve of the stadium, offering extensive conference and wedding facilities in addition to accommodation.
After extensive research, landscape architect Isabeau Meyer-Graft of Johns Associates specified Brett Landscaping, determining its Lugano flag paving was the ideal product, in terms of size, finish and price.
The chosen products textured surface and colour helps to create a cool, contemporary looking urban space around the entrance of the hotel.
Its high level of slip resistance and durable characteristics also meant that Lugano would meet the functional requirements for the area, which is sure to attract a high volume of pedestrian traffic.
The installation was completed by Hampshire-based contractor Powells Ltd. Mark Weston, the firms Contracts Manager, commented that the paving solution “brought a rich aesthetic dimension to the hotel forecourt, which is well complemented by street furniture and landscaping features.”
He concluded: “The hotel is now an integral part of the Ageas Bowl and something that will help the stadium’s ambitions to become a leading venue for international cricket, conferences and other events.”
