Hydro International has extended its Hydro-Brake Flow Control Series to include Hydro-Brake Agile, a new flow control device which has been designed to maintain a constant discharge rate without the use of external energy sources, and meet SUDs requirements.
Hydro-Brake Agile has been designed as an adjustable device, which can cater for changes in operating conditions. By offering low flood storage volumes, it is able to meet strict planning and Sustainable Drainage Systems (SUDs) requirements.
The unit, which can be matched to a range of outlet pipe sizes, can be supplied in a cast concrete chamber, making it easy to install on site. With automatic operation, the device also requires minimal maintenance.
Hydro International’s technical support service team can assist in designing an effective system using the new unit, offering guidance on storage calculations, flow and sizing.
The Hydro-Brake Agile is part of Hydro International’s Hydro-Brake Flow Control Series, which offers a number of devices specifically engineered for surface water control.
The new device meets conditions for surface water discharge rates; it can be engineered to achieve low flood storage in order to help developers meet SUDs requirements, whilst reducing construction costs and land take.
It is suitable for new developments, watercourse alleviation or highway projects with strict discharge requirements, where the flood storage space is limited.
By minimising flood storage above and below ground, the device saves building land and offers a solution to space limitations in underground tanks or pipework.
The Hydro-Brake Agile is manufactured from stainless steel; it comprises an orifice plate with a variable open area, which is regulated by a float-arm operated gate. This allows for the delivery of a constant discharge rate, which can be adjustable to match a site’s specific requirements.
During a storm, the float arm works to close the gate until the maximum water level and discharge rate is reached for a designated event. This prevents the gate from closing further.
The maximum discharge rage is maintained; the upstream storage is drained down to ensure that the unit is ready for following storm events.
