  • 29 Oct 2015

LG Hausys HI-MACS natural acrylic stone has been used in a project by Fokkema & Partners’ architects to overhaul the internal spaces of the Town Hall of Almere, in the Netherlands.

The acrylic stone has been used to emphasise the building’s original characteristics, whilst also creating an interior with unique and personal touches.LG Hausys HI-MACS at Town Hall of Almere

The architects opted for a full remodelling of the Town Hall, in order to highlight and enhance the main distinctive features of the building. This included the building’s concrete structure, height and gold slabs embedded in the columns, which were not visible from the inside before the refurbishment.

A more dynamic space was created by making the public services area accessible straight from the main entrance. Public counters, consultation rooms and waiting rooms are located in an open environment with an abundance of natural light.

As the project was public funded, it was important that the materials used maximised efficiency and durability.

In order to achieve a durable product which complies with the budget, HI-MACS natural acrylic stone was specified by the architects to implement the project. The product’s thermo cured, non-porous and resistant properties made it an ideal material for the refurbishment.

The HI-MACS Arctic White colour contrasts with the building’s original undamaged concrete, merging traditional and contemporary trends.

The public services area is located in two differentiated wings: the first wing houses the regular municipal services, such as passport distribution or the marriage registry. The second sector accommodates the social security services, including some other spaces that require particular privacy areas.LG Hausys HI-MACS at Town Hall of Almere

This separation was planned to create more open spaces, easing the packed crowds and procedures carried out.

When accessing the Town Hall, HI-MACS Arctic White colour causes the reception area to stand out due to the light it diffuses to the service areas. This has been designed to offer feelings of peacefulness combined with solemnity and professionalism.

Additionally, there are a series of touch screens available in the reception area manufactured in HI-MACS, sharing the same features of the surrounding area to create visual consistency.

The properties and features of the natural acrylic stone HI-MACS combined with the fabrication and expertise from Van der Plas Meubel & Project to fulfill this project´s requirement. The Town Hall of Almere is now fully operational for both staff and visitors.
