A hospital trust, based in the North East, has benefited from the installation of Geofire’s Agrippa acoustic fire door holders, which work to legally hold fire doors open.
For Gateshead NHS Foundation Trust, fire doors were found to be a barrier to access, particularly for wheelchair users and those with restricted mobility.
As a solution Geofire’s Agrippa acoustic fire door holders were specified to ease access through busy corridors, whilst protecting the hospital’s occupants in the event of a fire alarm.
The holders, which have been designed for ease of installation, utilise Geofire’s digital ‘listen and learn’ technology to recognise the sound of a specific fire alarm.
The technology works to ensure that the holders’ releasing trigger reacts to the precise sound of the alarm, rather than to loud noises; false activations are, thus, almost eliminated.
The CE marked magnetic fire door holders are mounted behind the door; they can be fitted at floor level, or at the top of the door, and reapplied at a later date. To operate, they require two C cell batteries, which last for around 12 months.
In addition, they have a battery life indication with a low battery warning.
Geofire’s Agrippa Acoustics products range also includes a ‘swing-free’ fire door closer, which is acoustically triggered.
