Stannah ‘go aloft’ for national Brunel project

Stannah has joined the Being Brunel Corporate Club as part of a new venture set up by the SS Great Britain Trust to protect Brunel’s legacy for future generations.

Being Brunel: the national Brunel project, is a venture which will invite the public to learn about Isambard Kingdom Brunel, an innovative mechanical and civil engineer from the Industrial Revolution.

To celebrate its membership, Stannah Technical Sales Advisor Kerry Kitchen and Olivia Stannah, daughter of Managing Director Jon Stannah, took part in a ‘going aloft’ stunt by climbing the rigging of Brunel’s SS Great Britain.

The local Stannah team, based in Bristol, look after all the lifts on the SS Great Britain site, with all lifts on-site supplied and installed by the family-owned company.

Stannah boasts an engineering heritage dating back to the 1860s. The founder, Joseph Stannah, founded the company by selling hoists and cranes in London, less than a decade following the death of Isambard Kingdom Brunel.

Jon Stannah, Managing Director of the Stannah Group of Companies commented: “We are delighted to be part of the Being Brunel Corporate Club and continue our long-standing association with the city and its heritage. 

And of course there’s a great connection with the shared engineering  backgrounds of both our organisations. My daughter, Olivia, thoroughly enjoyed her ‘Go Aloft’ experience and her tour of the whole visitor attraction.”

The SS Great Britain Trust currently requires an additional £600,000 in order to complete the £7.1m Being Brunel project.
