Education Hub launched to raise skills in architectural hardware

  • 2 Nov 2015

The Guild of Architectural Ironmongers (GAI) has launched an online platform for building professionals to access its wealth of educational resources.

The GAI Education Hub offers unlimited access to information for professionals studying for its Certificate in Architectural Hardware, the GAI Diploma and the Guild’s ongoing CPD programme.

The Guild has been providing an education, qualification and CPD programme for the architectural ironmongery industry since 1961, with over 2,500 GAI Diploma holders to date.

The Diploma is the only recognised programme in the world which leads to a qualification in architectural ironmongery to British and European standards.

The GAI education programme attracts students from 23 different countries, with 44 percent of total students based outside of the UK.

The GAI President, Maria Powell, believes that the Education Hub will transform the Diploma syllabus, as the online platform looks to make its learning resources available to hardware professionals worldwide.

She commented: “Essential content, ease of understanding and global access are vital to the new Education Hub. This new resource from the GAI is taking learning into the 21st century, offering an enhanced, interactive learning platform to an international audience.”

The Education Hub was developed following recommendations from a working party of GAI’s members in addition to its present students and alumni. Together, changes needed to the core curriculum were identified and decided that the method of delivery should be entirely online and therefore globally accessible.

Architectural Hardware studies

The GAI’s Certificate in Architectural Hardware is comprised of two stages, with a total of 24 updated education modules including helpful explanations, animations and video clips.

In addition to the GAI’s extensive library of resources, all course work and exams can now be studied online, in any order, with unlimited self-tests. Automation of exam results will ensure that learners know their results within days rather than weeks.

After receiving the Certificate, learners can continue their studies to achieve the GAI Diploma.

This third stage focuses entirely on the skills and learning needed for scheduling, which is important to Architectural Ironmongers working with architects and contractors of projects being built to UK and European standards.
