Contract interiors specialist Gradus has supplied an extensive range of wall protection systems to Scotland’s largest NHS hospital project build.

Gradus' wall protection systems at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital

Gradus supplied an extensive range of wall protection systems including handrails and guardrails.

Consisting of 14 storeys set over 26,000 square metres, the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital is one of the biggest critical care complexes in Europe, replacing 4 ageing hospitals across Glasgow.

The hospital opened in April 2015 featuring 1,109 beds, with each ward consisting of 28 single bedrooms.

Due to the high volume of staff and visitors to the hospital, it was fundamental that a full range of wall protection systems were specified to offer support, guidance and protection.

With almost 50 years of experience in the healthcare sector, Gradus was chosen to supply and install approximately 40,000 linear metres of specialist interior products within the hospital, equating to 25 miles of product.

Gradus wall protection

Gradus’ wall protection systems are designed to offer guidance and support to pedestrians whilst offering protection against damage caused by wheeled traffic in corridors and walkways.

Specified products included combi-rails, handrails, wall guards, corner guards and Sanparrel PVC-U sheet.

To conceal the effects of impact and abrasion, the products are through coloured and textured and are modular in design, making them easier to maintain.

Safety and protection systems

Gradus provides a free consultation and recommendations service, offering advice on a range of its products, including wall protection, carpets, barrier matting and flooring accessories.

In addition, the company has also launched a new range of Safety and Protection systems designed to provide both physical and visual barriers to impact in back-of-house applications such as service areas, loading bays and car parks.
