Geofire’s Salamander radio controlled fire door safety system has been installed at the Emmaus Trust Care Home in Cumbria.
The device connects wireless to a controller wired into the existing fire alarm system to legally hold open fire doors. The controller then closes the doors in the event of a fire emergency to protect residents and staff.
The fire door safety system is made up of 25 Salamander battery operated fire door closers, and was installed alongside three booster units and one controller by Geofire-approved installer Castle Alarms.
Salamander fire door closers were fitted to resident’s bedroom doors and set to ‘free-swing’ mode. This enables each resident to have their bedroom door open in their desired position whilst making door operation light and easy.
In the event of a fire alarm, the hardwired control panels positioned strategically around the building will send out a radio signal causing the doors to close.
Cumbria Emmaus Trust Chairman George Wells commented: “The replacement of the batteries is straight-forward and their long-term cost significantly lower than a hard wired system and the additional disruption to the building fabric. Overall, Cumbria Emmaus Trust is satisfied with the system and the way the installation was completed by Castle Alarms.”
The Salamander battery operated devices connect wirelessly to a main-powered controller radio unit.
This has been developed to easily connect to any existing fire alarm system, complying with Category A of BS 7273-4 to make sure that fire doors will safely close in the event of a fault or fire. A single controller unit can manage up to 99 fire door closers or fire door holders.
