REHAU’s TOTAL70 PVC-U window profiles have helped the beachfront Harbour Green development in Portobello, Edinburgh earn a nomination in the Apartment Development of the Year category at the 2015 Scottish Home Awards.
More than 300 contemporary anthracite grey foiled windows were specified in the 55 apartments, fabricated and installed by Motherwell-based Walker Profiles for MNM Developments.
Comprising of one, two and three bedroom apartments, floor-to-ceiling windows were chosen to maximise the light in the open plan interiors and give uninterrupted views for residents across the Firth of Forth.
Walker Profiles also installed a series of French doors in REHAU TOTAL70 opening onto balconies on one side of the four storey development. It also fitted faceted curved corner windows to give the developments hints of art-deco styling.
Architects Hackland and Dore specified the PVC-U window system for its energy efficiency and security benefits. It specified the system foiled in grey to contrast with the building’s white rendered exterior.
The Harbour Green development incorporated two Category B listed brick pottery kilns into its design.
Both the architects and developers had positive comments on the support received direct from REHAU’s commercial team during the specification process and the quality of work carried out by Walker Profiles.
The development also incorporates two 1906 brick pottery kilns into its design.
The Category B listed structures are the only physical remnants of the former potteries which were previously commonplace in Portobello and are a prominent feature within the public landscaped space surrounding the building.
