According to Axion Consulting, research projects using new technologies are helping to attract more graduates to the recycling and resource recovery sectors.
Axion Consulting is a Circular Economy specialist, based in Manchester.
The company undertakes up to six placement students annually and, after completing work experience at its Salford and Trafford Park processing facilities, many graduates secure permanent positions.
Current recycling research projects focus on diverse areas, such as flexible plastic packaging, automotive battery packs, fuel cells and medical imaging systems; Axion wants its next intake of new scientists and engineers to take these ideas forward.
The company hopes its offering of practical field work and equipment and process trials will attract skilled young chemical engineers.
Over 140 chemical engineering undergraduates from the Universities of Manchester and Birmingham recently attended presentations delivered by Axion’s engineers.
In addition to this, four graduates from the University of Manchester – Richard McCarthy, Shane Hornsby Joanna Paton and Dominic Lorimer – have recently joined the company, along with Ben Whicker, Ross Blandford and Nathan Richards from the University of Birmingham.
