Hot dip galvanizing for steel staircase

Hot dip galvanizing specified for historic tower staircase

  • 9 Dec 2015

Wessex Galvanizers has assisted with the restoration of a historic lookout tower by providing its hot dip galvanizing treatment to a staircase consisting of four tonnes of steelwork.

Located by the River Arun, the tower frequently comes into contact with water. Considering this, galvanizing was specified to protect its new staircase against weathering, and to significantly extend its lifespan.

In partnership with Geoff Burse Trailers, Wessex Galvanizers – part of Wedge Group Galvanzing – treated the steelwork before the staircase was fitted in the observation tower.

Designed and manufactured by GB Fabricators, the staircase was transported to the galvanizing company specifically for its protective treatment. The overall work took four weeks to complete.

As the galvanized staircase will be protected from rust, it will add to the aesthetic appeal of the historic lookout tower, ensuring that it will continue to impress visitors for years to come.
