Fire system for International Peace Education Center

Code-compliant fire system fitted in Vegas education centre

  • 14 Dec 2015

By making use of Advanced’s fire systems, AM Fire & Electronic Services (AMFES) has successfully fitted a code-compliant fire system at Las Vegas’ International Peace Education Centre (IPEC).

Spanning three stories and covering a total of 8,600 square metres, the IPEC accommodates a variety of large, open spaces – such as a 900 square metre ballroom. It also comprises smaller, contained areas, which have been designed to house offices and hotel-style bedrooms.

AMFES was contracted to protect the different spaces, whilst meeting Nevada’s fire codes efficiently and cost-effectively. These codes require the presence of a notification application in every room to ensure 80 dBA sound levels are maintained without reliance on wall penetration.

In addition, the new UL464 requirement for a low frequency 520Hz tone had to be adhered to.

Code-compliance with Advanced’s fire system

As AMFES’ primary fire systems supplier, Advanced provided the equipment for the project.

A combination of Las Vegas’ hot, dusty environment and the building’s unique layout called for a large number of smoke dampeners, with separate smoke detectors for activation, to be installed.

To protect the every inch of building, AMFES installed Advanced’s photoelectric detectors with Gentex speakers and speaker/strobes. Advanced’s duct detectors were also fitted in rooftop air handlers; Axis AX fire panels were used to incorporate the detectors into a networked system.

The equipment combination forms a system which is NRTL listed to comply with Nevada’s low-frequency mandates. The system produces the required 80 dBA, whilst Advanced’s photoelectric dectors provide full area smoke detection, allowing for the elimination of all damper duct detectors.

The network capability of Advanced’s system allowed AMFES to fit a single fire alarm control panel on each floor, reducing space requirements, cabling and cost.
