Advanced breather membrane offers storm protection

  • 15 Dec 2015

DuPont Tyvek Reflex, an advanced, weather-resistant breather membrane, has been specified to protect a timber frame apartment building from Torquay’s unpredictable storms.

DuPont Tyvek Reflex advanced breather membrane specified for new developmentRenowned for its temperate summer weather and pleasant autumns, Torquay is one of the south coast’s most popular seaside destinations.

Unfortunately, its location causes sufferance in the winter months; severe storms can hammer at the coastline, causing damage to the buildings situated on it.

For this reason, DuPont Tyvek Reflex was specified for use on Cornwall Timber Build’s new timber frame apartment block, which is located on the site of the town’s former Lansdown Hotel.

Set on higher ground, the 1,100 square metre structure comprises a total of 14 units. Tyvek Reflex has been installed to the interstitial wall cavities of the timber frame, which has been artfully constructed with sustainably sourced Scandinavian wood.

The product has been designed to maintain a comfortable interior environment; its thermal properties respond to the weather during summer and winter months.

Suitable for use in timber frame and vertical cladding, the membrane also offers windtightness and water resistance. Its low e-surface ensures longevity by preventing the aluminium surface from oxidising.
