Kingspan KoolDuct ductwork system

Kingspan ductwork system allows for significant HVAC savings

  • 18 Dec 2015

By substituting galvanised sheet metal ductwork for Kingspan’s KoolDuct System, specifiers can achieve “whole life” HVAC savings of over 25%, according to a recent report.

To examine the life cycle and capital benefits of different HVAC ductwork specifications, Kingspan Insulation commissioned the Whole Life Cost report.

The report incorporates research from Sweett, which shows that Kingspan’s KoolDuct System can reduce capital costs by 15%: at £10,944, the capital cost for ductwork produced by Kingspan’s system is significantly cheaper than the £12,896 for insulated galvanised sheet steel ductwork.

Kingspan’s system has also proven to reduce operation costs by 29%.

This implies that, throughout the system’s “whole life” of 30 years, it can yield an overall saving of 25% when compared with galvanised sheet metal ductwork.

Examining ductwork systems

Sweett investigated resilience, maintenance requirements and the costs of repairs and replacements to determine the operating costs of each system.

The results were then used to produce a system operating cost.

All costs were based on the use of the Kingspan KoolDuct system, constructed from 30mm Kingspan KoolDuct Panels and 4-bolt flange jointing system, in comparison to 50mm mineral fibre insulated galvanised sheet steel ducting.
