Invisible fix Cembonit cladding installed at sustainable development

A sustainable housing development in Hayes has utilised Cembrit’s Cembonit cladding to create an attractive finish for 6 new multi-use units.

Built to comply with Level 4 of the Code of Sustainable Homes, Kingswood Place comprises of 43 residential homes and three commercial buildings.

The development features picturesque landscaped grounds, with each apartment including an allocated parking space and private residents access to Rosedale Park. The project began in 2013 and finished in September last year.

Surrey-based property developer Vantage Homes specified Cembrit’s Cembonit cladding for the project, supplied via leading distributor of high performance cladding, PCP Cladding LTs & Premier Building Products Ltd.

The development’s external aesthetics were important, and as such a number of building materials were used for the external envelope, including cladding, bricks, render and glass. The sand-coloured Cembonit cladding complements the other finishes by providing a subtle, neutral contrast.

The contractor installed the materials in a traditional manner, opting to use wooden frames instead of the more common method of aluminium brackets and rails. 

The cladding was then bonded to the frame using a primer and activator, eliminating the need for any fixings being on display, providing a smooth finish to the building.

The residential side of the scheme achieves Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4.

About Cembonit sheets

Cembonit is an autoclaved, through coloured board in 11 pastel coloured impact resistant sheets, characterised by an attractive matt finish and a faint directional grain.

The through-coloured sand cladding provides a neutral contrast that complements the other finishes.

Cembonit cladding undergoes a one-of-a-kind impregnation treatment during the production process to protect against water staining and dirt, ensuring that the façade retains its original appearance in all weather conditions.

The product is ideally suited for overcalling rain screen applications, due to its combination of colour stability with a class 0 fibre rating to BS 476 part 6 and a class 1 rating to BS 476 part 7.

Cembonit’s surface features randomly dispersed spherules of cement, which alongside variations of shade from sheet to sheet assist in creating a natural looking façade.

The sheets can be used for a range of applications, including rain screen cladding, weatherboarding, window elements, fascia, balconies and prefabricated façade elements.
