‘Acoustix’ vinyl flooring reduces impact sound levels at Northampton Academy

  • 4 Feb 2016

Northampton Academy has specified 2,500 square metres of Polyflor’s Acoustix Forest fx PUR flooring to help improve the secondary school’s acoustic performance as part of an extensive refurbishment.

The classic, American Oak design flooring was installed along corridors and staircases on multiple levels at Northampton Academy by local flooring contractor Absolute Coverings

Ideal for high traffic commercial environments such as Northampton Academy, which accommodates up to 1,400 pupils, the acoustic floorcovering produces an impact sound reduction level of 19dB.

Available in 8 wood effect designs, the Acoustix Forest fx vinyl flooring range is features a closed-cell foam backing which provides its 19dB reduction within interiors, exceeding the UK Building Regulation requirements of 17dB.

Another key feature of the vinyl floorcovering is its polyurethane reinforcement (PUR). This provides enhanced protection and allows for a life-long, polish-free maintenance regime. The flooring also contains recycled material and is completely recyclable under the Recofloor vinyl take back scheme.

Northampton Academy’s business manager, Jed Queally, commented: “We specifically wanted an acoustic floorcovering to help create a more peaceful learning environment for our pupils, where excessive noise from foot traffic around classrooms would be less of a distraction.”
