Photovoltaic solar panels at BskyB campus

Prater installs photovoltaic solar panels at BskyB campus

  • 15 Feb 2016

Prater has been awarded a contract to design and install a photovoltaic (PV) system at BskyB’s Grant Way campus.

Prater will install the PV system to produce electricity for the site’s Building Two. It’s largest PV energy output to-date, the company will utilise off-site manufacturing facilities to streamline on-site operations and assemble the high-performance components required for the project.

Awarded by lead contractor Mace, the contract is a continuation of Prater’s involvement at the site, having previously delivered the largest glue laminated timber project in the UK to campus as part of a roofing and façade package.

Significant energy savings

The installation of a new PV system will have a great impact on the campus’ overall energy-efficiency.

The project includes the design and installation of 1,372 PV modules, covering 2,250 square metres of roofing. The two-phase installation programme is set to conclude this month (February 2016).

Prater’s managing director Gavin Hamblett commented: “Our latest contract at BskyB is an extension of the vast works already completed. The PV system designed and now being installed by our team will also contribute to the BREEAM Excellent environmental ratings for the buildings.

The 462kwp system is the largest output from a Prater PV installation to-date and will provide BskyB with a large-scale renewable energy source to continually help power their facility.”
