After successfully obtaining another healthcare contract, Abloy UK has installed its PROTEC2 CLIQ systems across the wards at Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth (QE) hospital.
Abloy’s security systems were previosuly fitted in 20 drug cabinets on the hospital’s ambulatory ward on a trial basis. When the trial was deemed successful, the PROTEC2 CLIQ locks were specified for complete installation across the wards.
Comprising mechanical disc cylinders and electronic locking and identification, PROTEC2 CLIQ has been designed to provide high security and access control.
The system provides audit trails on locks and padlocks, allowing for remote key control. Lost or stolen keys can be removed from the system, which can help to increase management in healthcare environments: the security of controlled drugs can be significantly increased.
The system’s CLIQ key provides power to the lock, meaning that no batteries or wires are required. It can, therefore, be used as a retrofit solution for mobile drug trolleys.
The QE’s PROTEC2 CLIQ system has been combined with Abloy’s Traka21 key management system, which allows its nurses to gain access to a specific key for the duration of their shift.
To do so, they must enter a PIN code to obtain the key, and then validate it by entering it into the CLIQ Wall programming unit.
