REHAU has announced that it will switch all of its UK plants to 100% renewable electricity.
The plans will be imposed on its window system and pipework production facilities in Blaenau and Amlwch, its head office in Ross on Wye and its distribution warehouse in Runcorn.
Just months after REHAU published its latest report setting out its progress towards demanding sustainability targets, SmartestEnergy has issued REHAU with a certificate acknowledging its commitment to purchasing renewable electricity up to the end of September 2016. REHAU has since confirmed it will continue this into 2017.
SmartestEnergy is a provider of renewable electricity, recognised as having zero carbon emissions under Scope 2 reporting and backed by an Emissions Factor Model certified by the Carbon Trust.
REHAU’s UK Chief Executive Martin Hitchin commented: “This is the latest evidence of REHAU’s commitment to an energy efficient, sustainable future – not just in the products we manufacture but in how we manufacture them.
“As a group, we’ve targeted a 30% reduction in primary energy consumption per tonne of production by 2020 (based on 2009 figures) and here in the UK this is a significant step in our progress towards that.”
