Exova BM TRADA will continue running its timber frame training programme in 2016.
The scheme focuses on providing specialist and technical training in a range of timber frame and structural timber techniques to constructors, specifiers and engineers.
The first of the three courses focuses on the benefits, usage and applications of Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT) within modern building systems.
CLT is popular for its built-in fire resistance, green credentials and aesthetic appeal. The course provides examples and understanding about how CLT can work within projects and the pitfalls to avoid.
It will include in-depth discussions, with specific details on pre-processing off-site; design principles and detailing; standards; and manufacturer; in addition to issues such as shrinkage; fire and engineering design guidance.
The CLT Training course will be held on Tuesday 1st March in High Wycombe and is aimed at contractors; architects; building contractors; developers; building inspectors; timber frame manufacturers and engineers.
Scheduled for Wednesday 9th March, the second course will focus on Timber Frame Construction. The one day course is also based in High Wycombe and will provide a better understanding of timber frames during design, construction and end use.
Timber frame are now widely used in both commercial and residential applications for their environmental performance, flexibility and speed of build.
The course is aimed at architects; building contractors; developers; building inspectors; timber frame manufacturers; quantity surveyors and clerks of works.
Aimed specifically at engineers and timber frame designers, the third one-day course will be Timber Frame for Engineers.
This course will be held on the 14th April and will look at the fundamentals of timber frame construction from an engineering perspective and will help engineers and designers gain an in-depth understanding of timber frame within construction.
The course covers the concept of timber frame, its components, design and best practice guidelines; and is ideal for understanding the engineering aspects of timber frame and studying design and concept examples of excellence.
Timber Frame for Engineers will also include essential guidance on British and European standards in design and building.
Exova BM TRADA will be holding a Visual Strength Grading course, with a focus on softwood, from the 25th-29th April 2016.
The five day course will provide essential training in visual strength grades as set out in BS 4978. The course is aimed at those who select and grade timber within the workplace and will be held at The Horse Trust in Speen.
All training is provided by a panel of experts who have experience in the use of timber in construction, its applications and technical specifications.
Exova BM TRADA runs courses throughout the year which can also be offered in-house or within a client’s premises. It’s full course brochure is available to download from the Exova BM TRADA website.
