GGF urges for greener budget from Government

  • 16 Mar 2016

The Glass and Glazing Federation (GGF) is urging Chancellor George Osborne to commit to more green incentives and funding initiatives ahead of today’s Budget statement.

GGF Managing Director Giles Wilson is eager to see a commitment from the Chancellor to support and grow the construction sector by delivering more jobs and increasing energy efficiency in the UK’s building stock.

He said: “We hope the Chancellor will take the opportunity in his budget announcement to show the government is supporting our sector.

By investing in energy efficiency the Chancellor can offer a boost to the thousands of businesses that work in the sector, increase the quality of living for thousands of people and keep people warmer and healthier by creating better homes.”

The GGF will be calling on the government to fill the void left by previous Government initiatives such as the Green Deal and zero carbon homes, which were abolished in 2015.

The Federation also hopes to see the Chancellor address several key areas including; endorsement of the Bonfield Review; removal of regulatory burdens for SMEs; lower VAT for glazing products; and more clarity on how the apprenticeship levy will work alongside the construction levy.

Chancellor George Osborne will make his Budget announcement today (Wednesday 16th March 2016).
