Glazing Vision’s three-wall box rooflights have been used as a key feature in six elaborate, modern townhouses designed by architects Tasou Associates.
Situated in the New River Conservation Area in Islington, the townhouses form a high-class gated mews development. Each house has been created with a unique sense of character which fuses heritage and contemporary design.
An important part of each property’s design was to create access to a roof terrace, to both maximise outdoor space and create a unique quality to each individual townhouse.
To achieve this, the houses were fitted with floating staircases which lead to decked terraces, offering views of the surrounding grade II listed Georgian buildings. Glazing Vision’s three-wall box rooflights were installed to allow direct access from the stairwell to the terrace and flood the stairwell with natural daylight.
The glass box rooflights were specified in different sizes to further contribute to the individual feel of each townhouse. The rooflights were designed to be fixed within the walls of each building, with one section sliding over and one fixed to create an approximate 50% clear opening.
One of the main benefits of the three-wall box rooflights is the significant headroom they offer to meet Building Regulation approved document K requirements.
Safety-assured manual over-rides and cut off drive mechanisms have also been installed to provide additional reassurance for each property-owner.
The resulting properties placed true emphasis on attention-to-detail, space and light quality. Glazing Vision’s three-wall boxed rooflights offered a minimalistic and contemporary design which offered both functionality and easy of access.
