Traditional handmade tiles chosen for Queens’ College heritage project

A mix of Keymer’s traditional handmade clay tiles have been specified for the re-roofing of the Old Court building at Cambridge University’s Queens’ College. An estimated 100,000 tiles will be laid to match the building’s west wing, which was re-roofed with Keymer tiles in 2001.

The Elizabethan and Antique tiles will be laid in accordance to traditional building methods to match the building’s west wing.

The Old Court dates back to the mid 15th century and holds a listed building status. As part of the building repairs, Keymer’s Elizabethan and Antique tiles will be fixed and laid in a 60/40 percent split.

The Keymer Traditional tile range is manufactured from Wealden clay originating from Ewhurst. The tiles will be fitted in accordance to traditional building methods to ensure the building matches the previous west wing renovation.
