Aperio wireless access control specified to protect student flats

  • 14 Apr 2016

Aperio wireless access control has been entrusted with the protection of a student accommodation block, belonging to the University of East Anglia.

For a decade, the university has depended on Gallagher Command Centre access control to satisfy its security needs.

However, to extend its existing system to its latest student accommodation block, Crome Court, a new wireless solution was required.

Accommodating over 230 en suite rooms for postgraduate students, Crome Court was designed to cut CO2 emissions and reduce environmental impact. An access control system that would contribute towards this goal was a necessity.

ASSA ABLOY’s wireless locking technology, Aperio, was eventually specified for installation. Boasting an impressive reputation within the security industry, the battery powered locks use less energy and emanate less CO2 than wired, magnetic locks.

The doors at Crome Court have been fitted with Aperio E100 online escutcheons, which are opened by programmable RFID smart cards. If a keycard is misplaced, it can be cancelled via a web-based interface or a mobile phone; a replacement can easily be issued, eliminating the need to change the locks.

The flexibility of Aperio allowed for its complete integration into the university’s existing access control system. Additional doors can be brought into the system whenever they are required.
