M&E engineer Selmec has successfully installed Gilberts’ Mistrale Fusion (MFS) ventilation system at the new Flying High Academy in Nottinghamshire.
Two MFS units have been installed in each of the school’s 16 classrooms, bar one, which has three.
The units ventilate internal spaces by mixing internal and external air through a mixing damper to achieve the 8 litres/sec/person of fresh air required by the Department of Education Building Bulletin (BB101) and Priority Schools Building Programme (PBSP) guidelines.
The mixing damper modulates airflow to allow new, fresh air to mix with the warm air inside the classroom, therefore extracting its heat without the need for an exchanger.
The units feature an integrated low energy fan which ensures an even distribution of airflow and controls the temperature and CO2 levels within.
The Mistrale Fusion (MFS) ventilation system complies with Building Regulations Approved Document L, attaining an air leakage of 5m3/HR/m2 and a U value of 1W/m2/°C.
The units were installed by Selmec on behalf of Kier Construction, as part of the £44 million Priority Schools Building Programme for the Education Funding Agency.
Flying High Academy is the first of a batch of new build schools that will be built under the scheme. Kier site manager Lee Barnes has stated that the Fusion ventilation units will be installed across all the new schools.
