Fire safety system at Saltdean Lido

Fire safety solution provided for historic lido renovation

  • 21 Apr 2016

An iconic, Grade II listed landmark at Saltdean has benefited from the installation of Kentec’s fire control panels, which have been fitted at the centre of a new fire safety system.

Designed by Richard Jones, and built in the 1930s, the iconic lido boasts a tea terrace and a sun deck. A café can be found on its flat roof, which features distinctive curved wings at opposing ends. It was deemed the most innovative British design of its type at the time of its construction; it is the only lido to be featured in London’s prestigious Design Museum.

Following the announcement of plans to partially demolish the complex and build flats, a local community group petitioned to restore and operate the pool as an alternative. When completed, the lido will feature a heated swimming pool, a gym, a library and an extensive meeting room space for community groups and businesses.

A comprehensive fire safety solution

As part of the £5 million refurbishment, Brighton and Hove City Council’s Leisure Department contracted AM Fire & Security to design and install an appropriate fire system to cover the building’s escape route.

The fire safety system has been designed around a single-loop Kentec Syncro AS analogue addressable fire control panel, with Hochiki devices and ESP open communications protocol. It features a Kentec Syncro View repeater panel, which has been installed at a second entrance to grant the building’s occupants access to the system.

Kentec’s Syncro control panels can be networked into much larger systems, allowing for the possibility of future expansions.
