Midlands employment boom to be enhanced by UK Construction Week

Over 10,000 construction jobs are predicted to be created in the West Midlands over the next five years and, by making its return to Birmingham, UK Construction Week will play a vital role in introducing local tradesmen to large-scale contractors.

A recent report from the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) anticipates that around 215,000 people in the West Midlands will be employed in the construction sector by 2020. In addition to this, a significant investment into the Midlands’ road network will boost infrastructure output considerably.

Contributing to the Midlands employment boom

By bringing the leading names in construction to Birmingham, UK Construction Week hopes to play a part in the employment boom, by providing a platform for local businesses to network with primary contractors and national developers.

By consciously deviating from the London-centric focus that has dominated the construction industry, the event aspires to acknowledge the imperative role that the Midlands has played in boosting the sector.

To promote this, it will present opportunities for local tradesmen to take advantage of the many large-scale construction projects, which are developing in the region.

UK Construction Week also aims to support skills development via its seminar programme, which has been designed to equip tradesmen with the knowledge and skillset they need to further their businesses and take on new employees.

The event itself will also provide a boost to the local economy: last year, it attracted over 24,000 trade visitors and more than 650 exhibitors from across the industry.

UK Construction Week will take place later this year, at Birmingham’s NEC from 18^th – 23^rd October.
