Aluminium windows for new medical centre

Aluminium fenestration systems specified for new build medical facilities

  • 12 May 2016

CMS Window Systems has provided an assortment of building envelope elements, manufactured with thermally-broken aluminium systems, to three new medical centres in North Lanarkshire.

Three medical centres have been constructed to improve provision and access to healthcare in North Lanarkshire. Delivered by Hub South West Scotland, as part of a multi-million pound government investment programme, the facilities have been built to accommodate GP, dental and medical services in Kilsyth, Wishaw and East Kilbride.

The projects’ main contractor, GRAHAM, appointed CMS Window Systems to manufacture and install aluminium curtain walling, windows and doors for the new builds.

Working to Reiach & Hall Architects’ designs, the company endeavoured to ensure that its systems were robust and aesthetically-pleasing, as well as thermally and energy efficient.

Located at the centre of the community, it provides additional services and accommodation for North Lanarkshire council’s new housing office and library.

The contemporary building benefits from CMS’ aluminium curtain walling and side hung windows. The company provided similar fenestration for Kilsyth’s new Community Health Centre, which is around twice the size of the town’s original health centre, which it replaced.

The specified glazing has helped to maximise the amount of natural daylight entering the building.

The third new medical centre, which is located in East Kilbride, comprises several GP practices and a dental practice, as well as additional medical services for the community. The facility features a large, glazed central atrium space, which was designed to create a calming atmosphere.

CMS played an integral role in creating the four-storey building’s envelope: it fitted thermally efficient units to control its internal temperature and improve the Hunter Health Centre’s internal conditions.

Ultimately, the company’s products have been designed to reduce the carbon footprints of the new buildings throughout their lifespans. As fully recyclable systems, the products will undoubtedly benefit NHS Lanarkshire and North Lanarkshire Council in the long term.
