Modus PVC-U windows meet baseline design demands for new Midlands schools

  • 13 May 2016

The latest range of Modus PVC-U windows from Eurocell have been chosen for two new secondary schools in the West Midlands to achieve a distinctively contemporary aesthetic and market-leading thermal performance.

Eurocell Eden Girls' School ModusEden Girls’ School in Coventry and Eden Boys’ School in Perry Barr, Birmingham were constructed as a design and build project by Thomas Vale Construction. The schools were designed by Birmingham-based architects ADP.

Thomas Vale specified Modus windows after discussions with Eurocell and fabricator/installer, Leicester-based Unique Window Systems.

The Modus slim rebate casement windows were chosen in an Anthracite Grey (RAL 7016) finish, with a smooth white interior. The windows have a design life of 25 years and a 10 year warranty.

The windows have already been fitted at Eden Girls’ School. Glenn Reeves, Project Manager for Thomas Vale, commented that they have successfully met the project brief:

“The frames, glass and profile are all working well and the installation went smoothly with no delays to our construction programme.”

Both schools feature identical designs, including £250,000 of frames and fenestration. The 72 frames were specified in four configurations, with all the window units measuring 2.4m tall.

Unique Window Systems acted as both fabricator and installer on the project. Unique’s Managing Director, Sunil Patel, commented:

“We have found Modus to be very successful in taking us into both the educational and commercial sectors. It’s a very adaptable profile system and clients like it because it looks great, is more accessible on price than aluminium and offers reduced costs-in-use, because of its superb thermal performance.”

The Modus range

The casement, reversible and tilt and turn windows have also achieved the A++ band in England and Wales for Window Energy Ratings (WERs), given to windows with an energy index value equal to or greater than +20.

Available in nine solid and woodgrain effect colours, the windows consist of 50% post-consumer recycled PVC-U and offer a 12-year guarantee.

A further range of more than 25 solid and woodgrain effect finishes is available to special order, including colour on both sides.
