Prater Woolston Water Treatment

Prater selected for wastewater recycling plant redevelopment

  • 17 May 2016

Prater has been selected to deliver a complete external building envelope for the redevelopment of the Woolston Wastewater Treatment facility in Southampton. The £63 million project will see the construction of a modern wastewater recycling plant which will comply with the latest environmental standards.

Originally built in 1966, the existing facility no longer meets the current Environment Agency standards and requires modernisation.

4Delivery has been selected to redevelop the site as part of a joint venture between Veolia, Costain and MWH Global.

The site will adhere to the stricter standards for water recycled into the environment and in turn solve many of the odour issues encountered by local residents and businesses. The buildings have been designed to complement the surrounding area.

4Delivery has chose Prater to deliver an external building envelope, with work scheduled to begin during summer 2017, with the project due for completion in 2018.

Prater will collaborate with its partner BEMO, and will utilise BEMO’s Monro standing seam system to achieve the complex geometry that the roofing and cladding design requires.

Stephen Walker, pre-contracts manager at Prater, commented: “We are delighted to have secured the contract at the Woolston site. Our team was able to solve a variety of technical issues throughout the tender process and add value to the conceptual stage of what will be a very challenging project.”
