STC Balcony Connectors

Ancon extends insulated balcony connector range

  • 18 May 2016

Ancon has added two new sizes to its STC balcony connector range to provide a higher resistance to both moment and shear forces. The range extension comes weeks after Ancon’s launch of its new stainless steel connectors at EcoBuild 2016.

Ancon’s steel-to-concrete connectors anchor an external steel balcony to an internal concrete floor slab, whilst minimising heat loss through thermal bridging at the interface.

Common applications for STC connectors include large cantilever balconies and situations where column layout or rebar congestion limits the number of connectors which can be installed.

Stainless steel to concrete

STC balcony connectors are manufactured in galvanised steel as standard, but are now also available in stainless steel, as part of the new SSTC series. The range is ideally suited to applications where maximum thermal efficiency and corrosion resistance is required.

The STC and SSTC systems are made up of a two-part assembly, allowing for a phased installation. The first component is cast in to the slab edge, with the second component installed only when required to avoid damage by other trades as construction progresses.

The steel bracket components are manufactured to order, allowing them to be designed to avoid conflict with cladding. Serrated slots in Ancon’s CE-market steel brackets provide quick and easy adjustability on site, without stop butts or levelling shims.

The connectors also prevent condensation and mould growth in buildings through an integral thermal pad.
