Selectaglaze has provided secondary glazing for the Old School, a Grade II Listed property which delivers housing for retired officers through the Salvation Army Housing Association
The Salvation Army Housing Association (SAHA) was established in the 1950s to manage the housing of recently retired officers. The charity has developed over the years, demonstrating its dedication to the community and transforming the lives of those in need.
Based in Kent, the Old School is a Grade II Listed property that delivers housing through the SAHA.
Its original cavity double glazed windows were in need of attention: thin, draughty and incapable of retaining heat efficiently, an adequate solution was required. However, due to the Listed nature of the building, the primary windows could not be replaced.
Selectaglaze secondary glazing was specified to tackle the issue. The glazing has been fitted to the internal side of the windows, offering a fully reversible solution, which has received approval from most heritage bodies.
In total, over 100 secondary units were fitted, using five different products from Selectaglaze’s slim line range.
Before the installation could be carried out, the company utilised a 3D digital measuring device to model the glazing. This ensured compliance with the building’s bespoke designed units, which are shaped with gothic-style curves and trefoil. High performance seals were used to eliminate draughts, providing a comfortable living space for the tenants.
Secondary glazing can also reduce noise ingress: a sound reduction of 45dB is possible when there is a 100mm cavity between the primary and secondary windows.
