Toilet provision and continence in schools are growing issues. Clos-o-Mat explains how specifying a wash and dry toilet can make a significant difference to affected pupils in their educational environment.
According to research carried out by ERIC and the Association of Teachers and Lecturers, an increasing number of primary school teachers are seeing more children starting school with continence problems. Inadequate toilet provision has left them unsure of how to deal with it.
Whilst there is no official legislation governing the cleaning and maintenance of school toilets, nor the provision of necessary bathroom accessories, Clos-o-Mat argues that it is still an important issue that needs to be tackled.
Improving school toilets and specifying hygiene rooms when term time ends is a cost-effective way of addressing the issues these pupils face. Simple changes, such as replacing a conventional WC with a ‘wash and dry’ toilet, can allow the children to enjoy independence and privacy.
Such toilets can be sourced from Clos-o-Mat. With built-in douching and drying, the company’s Palma Vita WC has been designed to eliminate the need to wipe clean. A range of paediatric supports are available, ensuring that the toilet can be adapted to accommodate younger users. The Lima Lift version, for example, is fully height adjustable.
Clos-o-Mat offers additional fixtures, allowing for the installation of adult-sized changing benches, hoists and washbasins.
