CLIQ installation

CLIQ locking cylinders specified to protect drug cabinets

  • 6 Jun 2016

The Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust has specified ABLOY’s CLIQ locking cylinders for installation on one of its wards, to save nurses’ time and upgrade drug safety.

ABLOY’s PROTEC2 CLIQ electromechanical locking system was installed to secure drug cabinets, cupboards and fridge padlocks on one of the wards at Scunthorpe Hospital.

Powered by a standard battery, which is located inside each key, CLIQ cylinders are perfectly suited to the healthcare sector. Each key’s access rights can be changed or revalidated whenever necessary; a lost or stolen key can be instantly deleted, negating any risk to drug supplies.

Audit trails can also be generated for any cylinder, enhancing the safety of the hospital’s drugs and medicine.

At Scunthorpe, each nurse working on the ward was issued with a single key, programmed to only open the locks that were authorised for them.

By switching from a mechanical lock system, which placed a drain on the nurses’ time,  to CLIQ, the hospital has become more efficient: with their new keys, the nurses no longer have to find ward managers or authorised key holders to access drug cabinets.

The Trust’s chief pharmacist and clinical lead of medicines management, Mike Urwin, has advocated the installation of the system on every ward.
